Attachment 3 <br /> Youth Government Day <br /> Breakout Summary <br /> The information compiled in this report represents the input of eighty high school <br /> students from Amador, Foothill, Village, and Horizon during Youth Government Day. <br /> Eight groups gave their thoughts on friends, family, school and extra curricular activities <br /> and how they influence "Life Balance Students were asked to write on a post -it note <br /> and post on the corresponding flipchart the answer to this question, "How do /does <br /> friends, family, school, and extra curricular activities influence you in achieving life <br /> balance After students wrote down their thoughts and concerns, they were asked, <br /> "Taking a look at what you said influences your schedule on a daily basis, what programs <br /> or ideas can the Youth Commission bring to the City Council and School Board to <br /> promote life balance for teens as it relates to friends, family, school, and extra curricular <br /> activities Student representatives from each of the eight groups reported the results to <br /> peers and government officials. <br /> Friends <br /> Concerns/Issues Possible Solutions <br /> Places to "hang out" Recreation Center <br /> Peer pressure Counselor /support awareness programs <br /> Communication about including "friends helping friends" peer <br /> activities for youth counseling or upper -class mentor <br /> Affordable activities City Facebook for youth/teens <br /> Difficult to meet people Connecting with leadership groups /clubs; <br /> encourage participation as freshmen <br /> Welcoming new kids `mix it up' days <br />
