MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> 5. Presentation recognizing The Arc of Alameda County on their 60 anniversary and <br /> National Developmental Disabilities Month <br /> Dick Fitzmorris, The Arc of Alameda County, thanked the Council for recognition of their <br /> organization, the 15,000 individuals they serve, and reported that the Alternatives Ventures <br /> Program at the Tri- Valley facility in Livermore will be held in July. The program allows clients to <br /> get out into the community and take advantage of recreational activities and volunteer <br /> opportunities at businesses and non profits. <br /> 6. Presentation recognizing March as National American Red Cross Month <br /> David Spencer, American Red Cross, thanked the Council for recognizing the work they do. He <br /> said their organization is an army of volunteers and offers assistance and support to the many <br /> disasters around the world. Locally, they do a lot to address fires and disasters that do not reach <br /> headline news. <br /> 7. Public Comment <br /> Joe Ely asked that the Council endorse Proposition 15; California Fair Elections Act, which is a <br /> pilot measure passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor which will enact the <br /> system of voluntary full, public campaign financing for candidates for the election of Secretary of <br /> State in 2014 and 2018. He provided copies of endorsement forms and a sample resolution of <br /> support. <br /> Councilmember Sullivan noted that he will be raising this as an issue to determine Council <br /> support under Matters Initiated by Council. <br /> Cathe Norman invited Councilmembers to a candlelight vigil on March 10, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. to <br /> recognize the 2 anniversary of the Pleasantonians for Peace and the 7' anniversary of the <br /> invasion of Iraq. <br /> Fred Norman spoke of the number of military killed in Iraq and Afghanistan and read the names <br /> of the 27 soldiers who were killed since the last Council meeting. <br /> Karla Brown addressed Council concerning grading on the southeast hills of Pleasanton as it <br /> relates to the Oak Grove development and noted that discussions have come up that the <br /> houses are not truly placed on the ridgeline, which she takes exception to. <br /> Kay Ayala, Co -Chair of the No on Oak Grove Committee, addressed Council regarding the <br /> upcoming election for the Oak Grove development plan and the need to relay correct facts to <br /> the public. In order to post correct information on the committee's website, she questioned if all <br /> of the 51 houses would come to the Council for approval. She believed the Zoning Administrator <br /> reviews the proposed homes for compliance with the General Plan and that decision for <br /> approval or denial can be appealed by a member of the Planning Commission, the City Council <br /> or a member of the public. <br /> In addition she asked Council to reconsider their standard operating procedures to have paid <br /> representatives speak at the end of all public sessions. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 8 March 2, 2010 <br />
