According to the AASHTO Guide for the <br /> Development of Bicycle Facilities, sidewalk use by bicycles is only recommended <br /> under certain limited circumstances as follows: <br /> 1) To provide for bicycle travel on high speed or heavily traveled roadways where <br /> there is inadequate space for bicyclists <br /> 2) On long, narrow bridges." <br /> Map of Existing and Proposed Bicycle Facilities <br /> The map of existing and proposed bicycle facilities will be updated to provide a <br /> label for the Alamo Canal Trail, to reflect completion of the Marilyn Murphy Kane <br /> Trail, recently completed bike lanes on Foothill Road from Bernal Avenue to <br /> Foothill Place, and existing bike lanes on southbound Foothill Road from Canyon <br /> Way to Stoneridge Drive. <br /> Foothill Road Bike Lanes Table 3 -3, Page 3 -26, provides recommended <br /> improvements to Foothill Road, with options from modest to major complexity. <br /> This provides a range of options based on availability of funding. The map of <br /> Proposed Bicycle Facilities, Figure 3 -3, reflects modest to moderate complexity <br /> improvements recommended as near term improvements. <br /> The following information and table will be added to Chapter 3 "Ultimately, <br /> our goal for Foothill Road is to provide Class II bike lanes throughout the corridor, <br /> however this goal will require road widening and right of way acquisition for some <br /> roadway segments.
