Trish Moosbrugger, Amador Friends of Music (AFM) President, said that in addition to her role
as president she has spent the last 6 years traveling with students throughout the state and
even abroad as head chaperone. She reported that the students are continually congratulated
on their behavior and respecffulness on their travels and she thanked them for setting such high
standards for AFM to work towards.
Councilmember Cook Kallio said she was also AFM president for six years and in that period
the band also won the sweepstakes and Esprit de Corps award. She said the latter was held
higher than anything else that had been won. She thanked the students for their hard work and
superior representation of Pleasanton.
Ben Donnelin, Drum Major, thanked the Council for the recognition. He said that while their
focus is on music, it is a primary goal of the band to represent this community with the utmost
discretion and integrity.
Kathy Yu, Junior Drum Major said she feels she and her band mates have grown as performers
and in character over the past 3 years and that this award is a great representation of what they
do for the community of Pleasanton.
Nick Park, Sophomore Drum Major, thanked the Council for recognizing their achievements in
music, marching, and behavior. He thanked Mr. Grantham for being a phenomenal band
director and exemplary role model, stating that he strives to emulate and respectfully represent
him both on and off the field.
16. Public Comment
Kathy Dowding said her two children were both active in and served well by the Amador High
School Marching Band. She said it is an incredible program which does a lot for the
community's youth and hoped the community could in turn find a way to ensure its continued
funding. She read the names of the 27 American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since
the last Council meeting and thanked the Council for remembering all soldiers in its closing
comments. She invited the public to join Pleasantonians for Peace at its monthly vigil on
February 10, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the museum on Main Street.
Angelina Summers said she is one among several people she has encountered who did not
appreciate the holiday ice rink and the disruption it created for library patrons and raised several
questions.
Mr. Fialho spoke to some of her questions, stating that the City entered into a five -year lease
agreement with San Jose Sharks for the library parking lot. The City, as a sponsor of the ice
rink, contributed funds and any resulting proceeds are slated for three different categories, the
first of which is potential resources for the Pleasanton Unified School District. Materials were
purchased by San Jose Sharks and are being stored at the Operations Service Center in
Pleasanton. He noted that both positive and negative comments were received regarding the
matter and stated that staff intends to provide the Council with an after action report for future
consideration.
Councilmember Cook Kallio noted the item was presented and discussed at a previous and
televised Council meeting.
City Council Minutes Page 4 of 12 January 19. 2010
