From:
Sent: Sunday, November 29, 2009 7:30 PM
To: Maria Hoey
Subject: Redcoat pub
I am shocked and very disappointed with the planning commission allowing week night live
music. I live at the corner of St. Mary and Pleasanton Ave and I have problems almost every
weekend with patrons of the Redcoat Pub. I have had them in my back yard, sleeping on my
lawn, and using my bushes for a bathroom. I even had one person knock on my door and ask for
a ride. If I can get the garbage cans out for pickup before all the cars are parked in front of my
house someone knocks them over, so I have to wait until the cars are gone and the patrons are
gone to put them out if I don't want to pick them up before 5 am when the garbage truck comes. If
it's knocked over the garbage company tries to pick it up, but they don't get everything because
by that point the garbage is scattered all over the street. The police are trying very hard to take
care of the problems, but there are only so much they can do. Every weekend there is trash all
over the lawn and in the gutter. The patrons scream and generally are noisy from midnight to 3
am. Now I have two more nights of this. Thanks! When do I get sleep? Do any of you live in the
area? I bet not. This is just one more thing to add to the long list of things that make living near
downtown a nightmare. It was never this bad when the Union Jack pub was in business, but the
Redcoat has been a problem sense it was opened. The owner doesn't seem to care about the
neighbors or she would address the parking and trash issues. Not to mention the loud noise.
Talking about the parking issue. We have the Farmer and Barones that don't have enough
parking for their events. I can't even park near my street on nights that an event is taking place
because all these places DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH PARKING. This town needs parking
downtown. Why don't you require enough parking for these types of businesses. All summer
there is something going on downtown. Then we have the fairgrounds to deal with. I am so
thankful that during the fair our street has no parking. I remember when there was parking on our
street, we couldn't even get in our driveway because of all the traffic. I have a question, the
parking lots that are along the Union Pacific Railroad track that are in use for the fair "Why
couldn't these be used for the downtown events and fairground events year round My other
question is: I would like to know why the Farmer and Barones are charging for parking when
there is live music at their businesses? People are more apt to park where they don't have to pay
for parking. I have asked several people when putting out my garbage cans what business they
were at, The Redcoat, Farmers, and Barones are the ones they were at and all the people said
they couldn't find free parking near these businesses.
Deann Braley
