From: Carolyn Kilmer
Sent: Monday, November 16, 2009 9:18 AM
To: Steve Otto; Donna Decker
Subject: Redcoats request for live music
Dear Mr. Otto and Ms. Decker:
Since I may not be able to attend the Wednesday meeting, I wanted to be sure to state my
support for the request for live music and use of the outdoor patio at Redcoats. I understand that
Redcoats has applied for permission to have music inside on Wednesday and Thursday nights
from 9 12 pm and there is some opposition to this. This seems like a reasonable request for a
pub.
Pleasanton is a wonderful city but what it is missing is much nightlife after 9p.m., especially
downtown. Redcoats aims to provide live music which enhances the draw to downtown, keeps
the dollars local and gives people a reason not travel to Walnut Creek. There are other venues
offering live music inside and outdoor seating like The Pleasanton Brewery and Barones, Why not
allow another business to do the same thing?
Choosing to live in any downtown area comes with an understanding that there is a mix of
residential and commercial properties. That being said, if one chooses to move in next door to a
restaurant/pub, one should expect some noise from that establishment.
As you know, downtown has seen better days in terms of vacancies. Our local businesses are the
key to the survival of our beautiful downtown. Let's not threaten the success of one of
downtown's gems by being unreasonable on the issue of live music and patio seating. Redcoats
is run by a local business woman who has much experience in operating a restaurant responsibly
and successfully.
Please help keep downtown a popular destination place and approve the request for Redcoats to
feature live music and keep their patio open.
Thank you.
Carolyn Kilmer
SUPPL NTAL ERIAL
Provided to the Planning MAT Commission
After Distribution of Packet
Ir i6 0 9
oats olttrlb
