Proclamation recognizing "End Polio Now Day" <br /> Councilmember Thorne introduced representatives of the three Tri- Valley area Rotary Clubs <br /> and presented the proclamation. <br /> The representatives thanked the Council for recognizing the efforts of Rotary International. It <br /> was noted that since 1985, the Rotary has made the eradication of polio its primary goal and <br /> that those efforts have reduced the number of countries reporting polio occurrences from 125 to <br /> just 4. <br /> 12. Public Comment <br /> Fred Norman reported that 67 American soldiers were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan last month. <br /> He requested that residents do what they can to speak out against these deaths by joining <br /> Pleasantonians for Peace at its next vigil on Wednesday, November 11`" at 7 p.m. on Main <br /> Street. <br /> Kathy Dowding read the names of the 92 American troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since <br /> she last attended a meeting. She thanked the Council for its decision to adjourn these meetings <br /> in honor of fallen soldiers. <br /> Doug Miller thanked the Council and all City staff for their support at Sunday's Veteran's Day <br /> Parade.
