The City is also bisected by numerous man-made <br /> and natural structures, i.e., creeks, canals, <br /> arroyos, underpasses, overpasses, rail tracks <br /> and trestles, bridges and a major highway. <br /> These are natural phenomena of the terrain or <br /> man-made to enhance travel into, out of, and <br /> within the City. There are deadend streets, <br /> cul-de-sacs of over 500 feet and grades to be <br /> traversed that exceed 20%. There are <br /> apartment and condominium complexes that have <br /> limited access and have units placed at <br /> different elevations. We are a rapidly <br /> growing city, annexing hilly and mountainous <br /> land on a regular basis, and where traffic <br /> congestion has become a key issue. <br /> <br /> f. All of the above topographical conditions <br /> create the potential for extensive fire damage <br /> potential for loss of life and injury to <br /> firefighters. <br /> <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: Section 20.08,050(c) of the Pleasanton Municipal Code <br /> is hereby amended in its entirety to read as follows: <br /> <br /> "c. Any structure in an area determined to be a high <br /> fire Hazard Area by the Chief of the Pleasanton <br /> Fire Department, except that in any one and two <br /> family residential structures the current NFPA 13-D <br /> Standard shall be followed when installing <br /> automatic fire extinguishing systems. A Hazard <br /> Area shall be defined as those areas beyond five <br /> (5) minutes driving time of fire apparatus from the <br /> fire station serving that particular district or <br /> areas determined by the Chief to be either high <br /> hazard areas or extreme hazard areas based on <br /> steepness of slope and/or fuel loadings from <br /> combustible plant materials as set forth in the <br /> Safety Element of the General Plan. <br /> <br />Section 2: The City Attorney is directed to mail a copy of this <br /> ordinance to the Department of Housing and Community <br /> Development within thirty days of its adoption as <br /> required by Health and Safety Code Section 1795~.7. <br /> <br />Section 3: This ordinance shall be published once within fifteen <br /> (15) days after its adoption in "The Valley Times," a <br /> newspaper of general circulation published in the City <br /> of Pleasanton. <br /> <br />Section 4: This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days <br /> after the date of its final passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> - 4 - <br /> <br /> <br />
