BACKGROUND <br /> This item is placed on the agenda in accordance with City Council Rules and Operating <br /> Procedures, Section IX, which stipulates that in December of each year, the Mayor shall <br /> appoint representatives to serve on internal Council committees and on regional boards, <br /> commissions, committees and joint powers authorities for the coming calendar year. At <br /> the same meeting, the Council traditionally selects one of its members to serve as the <br /> Vice Mayor for the coming year. <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> The City of Pleasanton is represented by its elected officials on numerous regional <br /> organizations having jurisdiction over policy matters affecting the City. Various internal <br /> committees, comprised of Council representatives, advise the full Council on other <br /> policy matters. <br /> Recently, the Mayor requested assignment preferences from each member of the City <br /> Council. After considering individual requests, the Mayor made her selections which <br /> are reflected on the attached sheet. The only change from 2009 assignments is that <br /> Councilmember Thorne will replace Mayor Hosterman as Pleasanton's representative to <br /> the Altamont Landfill Open Space Advisory Committee. <br /> The Council is asked to ratify the Mayor's appointments and, on motion made by the <br /> Mayor or any Councilmember, to choose one of its members to serve as Vice Mayor for <br /> calendar year 2010. <br /> Approved by, <br /> Nelson Fialho <br /> City Manager <br /> Page 2 of 2 <br />
