BACKGROUND
Last year, the City changed the structural organization of the planning, building, and
public works departments. We now have a Community Development Department and
an Operations Services department. The classifications of Public Works Director and
Planning Director no longer exist. Instead, we now have a Director of Community
Development and a Director of Operations Services. And we no longer refer to the
planning department and building department; they are now referred to as the planning
division and building division. Finally, the director of building inspection is now referred
to as the chief building official and the director of engineering is now called the city
engineer. This code amendment will clean up all of the language in the municipal code
that refers to classifications or departments that no longer exist or that have been
renamed or added.
DISCUSSION
Outdated references to the planning department, public works department, planning
director, public works director etc. can be found in nearly one hundred different sections
of the municipal code. The City Attorney's Office and the Directors of Community
Development and Operations Services met and reviewed each code reference and
determined what changes should be made in light of the organization's new structure.
In some cases, for example, a reference to the Public Works Director was changed to
the Community Development Director. In other cases, it was appropriate to change the
reference to the Public Works Director to the Operations Services Director.
Submitted by: Approved y:
dtad 414
Michael Roush Nelson Fialho
Interim City Attorney City Manager
Attachment:
1.
