Oliveira C -6487 <br />THAN BEER OR WINE 711 Main Street, <br />Pleasanton, Cal. <br />"ON SAYE" LICENSE FOR LIQUOR OTHER Angelo Uliana, P -Q -897 <br />THAN BEER OR WINE 742 Main ST. <br />Pleasanton, Cal. <br />Before holding a recess in order to examine the monthly claims and off icers' <br />'reports the Council took occasion to hear former Senator 'Frank M.Qarr of Oakland <br />introduce before it a proposition which concerned the taking over,,the properties <br />of the Pleasanton `training Park by a group of Oakland and Alameda County business <br />men, which would be known as the Pleasanton Jockey Club and•th e plans underway <br />for the opening of the track and the holding of two race meets. Mr. Carr advised <br />the Council that if all conditions were me6ir both as regards the people owning <br />the race track'and the City Council -that the group he represented were planning <br />to spend in excess of one hundred thousand dollars before fall. -He advised that <br />present plans concerned acquiring the property and starting operations to put it <br />in shape on May lst• that the grou planned to hold a nine -day racing meet in advance <br />of t.h San Joaquin bounty Fair in Lgust and in - connection with an Alameda County <br />Fair'%that thirty days racing wou d be held 'the latter part of January and February <br />to consist of six weeks racing a five days per week. He advised that in connection <br />with the Alameda County Fair tha plans would be made to encourage Santa Clara and <br />Contra Costa Counties to join with it. He then proposed to the ouncil that some <br />arrangements be made.to allow the association to have a 12 foot strip along Rose <br />Avenue in order .to give the track its proper width etc. Also that all policing <br />on the grounds during racing meets would be under the jurisdicition of the Chief <br />of Police of Pleasanton but to be paid for by the race track management. He also <br />advised that the association intended that the Chief of Police recommend those <br />policement who would be hired on the grounds, but that the association would- <br />reserve the right to have a plain clothes man on the grounds of its own selection. <br />He also advised that arrangements would have to be made concerning traffic.and <br />that the association proposed to put in two additional entrances and exits, one <br />on the lower Rose Avenue and the other on Bernal Avenue. 'He also discussed <br />the license to be charged, taxes to be levied against the�pr.operty and assessments. <br />As regards these three he aslWd, hat the Council give consideration to them in an <br />effort that in the future theW,would not see exorbitant charges made against the <br />track. He advised that the group which would acquire the property had in mind <br />employing as much local labor as possible and to do as much business within the <br />community as was conveniently so to do. He also asked that the Council bear <br />in mind that the group coming into the community were not associated with any <br />gambling groups or institutions. At the conclusion of his remarks the Mayor <br />and the other Councilmen present individually expressed themselves as being willing <br />to cooperate with Mr. Carr. E. W: Schween responded for the community. <br />A recess followed during which the finahce committee examined Claims No. <br />380 to 436 inclusive gnd amounting t'o $1498.70 as well as the officers' monthly <br />reports. Councilman Madsen, of the finance committee in-the absence of Council- <br />man Rivolta, reported that the committee had approved claims No. 380 to 436 <br />inclusive and moved that they be paid. His motion was seconded by Councilman <br />Amaral and all the\Councilmen present were in favor of same. He also reported <br />that the finance committee had approved the officers' reports a nd'he moved that <br />they be placed on file. <br />Action on the communications were taken as follows: <br />March 9th -- Western Pacific Railroad Company. filed. <br />March 9th-- C.A.Gale -The Clerk recommended that these bonds be written with the <br />Globe Indemnity Company and the Council advised that he take the <br />matter up with Mr. Gale. <br />March 11th -- Burnett Hamilton, County Engineer, Filed. <br />March 12thl- Division of Highways -`the Clerk was instructed to prepare the state- <br />ment f orwarded. <br />March 14th-- C.A.Gale- In view of the fact that the policies had been renewed no <br />
