The Council accepted the invitation of the Pleasanton Fire Department and <br />since Fire Chief Letham and Secretary T. H. Silver were in the audience, the <br />Ivlayor verb&lly accepted the invitation in behalf of the Councilmen and officers <br />of the municipality. Mayor Orloff asked for a report from Attorney Nilson <br />relative to the two communications referred to him at the last meeting, viz. <br />the City of Albany and the Constitutional Rights Association. Mr. Nilson advised <br />that neither one of them required action, and were�erely informative. <br />Councilman Madsen queried the Mayor with reference -to the property of <br />Mrs. Irene Schweer Lawrence and about which Mr. Kolln had written the Council. <br />Mayor Orloff advised that since all of the members of the Council had not been <br />able to meet in a body and that only individual investigations had been conducted <br />that he did not wish to see any action until after the entire group had gone <br />over the premises. After a short discussion it was decided that the Council <br />will go over the property next Sunday morning, March 10th at 9 o'clock. Fire <br />Chief Letham was questioned regarding the property and he'advised that it <br />was not the fire hazard that many considered it. He advised that the upstairs <br />in the barn was entirely vacant, there being no hay or anything else stored there. <br />Also that the first floor was fairly well taken care of but that the back yard <br />should receive some attention.' <br />Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilties committee reported on the work <br />now in progress at the sewer farm, the. extent that the SERA work had gone on <br />within the past few days, that trees had been planted and that-the grass had <br />been cut and that the grounds were in fair condition for this time of the <br />year. Councilman lvladsen recommended that a letter be written to the County <br />Engineer regarding the burning of grass along the County Road and asking that <br />more care be taken than in previous times. He drew attention to what had taken <br />place last year and the number of trees on the sewer farm property that were <br />destroyed. A short discussion followed and at its conclusion Councilman Madsen <br />made a motion to the affect that the Clerk communicate with the County Engineer <br />relative to burning grass along the property and mentioned to'him the amount <br />of money that had been .expended by the muricipality as regards the replacing <br />of the trees burned last ear through the negligence of county employees <br />of the road de-oartment. councilman Rivolta seconded this motion and it was <br />carried by the vote of all the Councilmen. <br />Councilmen Olesen of the street and building committee reported on the ' <br />street work accomplished during, the past month, the drainage ditch etc. which <br />had been opened up and the installation of new pipe. He also advised as <br />regards a visit of Mr. Philips of the Western Pacific 11ailroad Company and to <br />the affect that Iti'Ir. Philips recommended that a license:.be given the municipality <br />as regards the installation of a ditch south of Angelita Street. Councilman <br />Olesen advised relative to curb and gutter work should S.E.R.A. project be <br />submitted later on when such projects would be given the attention at Oakland <br />headquarters. <br />Councilman Amaral of the Laws and Judiciary Committee had nothing to report. <br />Councilman Rivolta of the Finance Committee and the City Hall building <br />committee that a request had been received from the Woman's Improvement Club <br />relative to improving conditions in their club rooms in the City Hall. I:Zr. <br />Rivolta advised that the plaster was in bad shape and asked that the Council <br />take a few minutes recess to investigate same. This was done and when the <br />meeting was resumed Councilman Madsen volunteered to help in fixing the plaster <br />providing the services of a competent painter were secured. It was decided <br />to refer the matter to the building committee for action, the committee to <br />include Councilman Rivolta and Madsen and they were permitted to make the <br />necessary arrangements for fixing the improvement. <br />The Clerk brought up the matter of restaurant licenses to be issued <br />April 1st. Attorney Nilson explainted the restaurant situation as regards <br />the Council's position and advised that the liquor situation was one that <br />concerned the State Board of Equalization and that only after the Council <br />found the local business not being conducted properly that it could take <br />action. 'the Clerk explained the advice that he had received from -the Board <br />and Chief of Police Delucchi reported that the local set -up was O.K. according <br />to Messrs. Winegar and Spread of the State Board of Equalization. The matter <br />was allowed7to rest for the time being and the Clerk was instructed to proceed <br />with the issuing of restaurant licenses as heretofore. <br />The following resolutions were then presented: <br />Resolution No. 1536 -- Authorizing the payment of the salaries of the .municipal <br />officers for the month of February and amounting to <br />1 "745.00. <br />" * "- If No. 1537-- Authonizing the payment to the California Pottery Company <br />of J200.00 on account of sewer pipe purchased February <br />16, 193 5 ., <br />Action on the resolutions were then taken as follows: <br />Resolution No. 1536 -- Adopted on motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded by Councilman <br />Olesen and with all the Councilmen in favor of same. <br />It IT It No. 1537 -- Adopted on motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded. by Councilman <br />Olesen and with all the Councilmen in .favor of same. <br />r <br />li)i <br />
