3 <br />PETIT IONS RECEIVED: <br />Petitions to hold public dances were received from: <br />Druid's Circle in the 1.O.O.F. Hall on June 51, 1946 <br />Metro Music Co. in the I.D.E.S. Hall on June 22,. 1946. <br />RECESS: <br />The Mayor declared a recess for examination of claims and <br />officers' reports. <br />ACTION ON CLAIMS AND EEPORTS : <br />The meeting was again called to order. On motion of Councilman <br />Hansen, .seconded by Councilman Mezza and unanimously approved by the <br />Council, it was ordered that claims Nos. 335 to 366, inc., amounting <br />to 0_,767.86 be approved and paid. <br />Councilman Hansen reported that all officers' reports had been <br />exanf d. and approved. The reports were ordered filed. <br />The Mayor then interupted the meeting to allow visitors to address <br />the Council. <br />Mr. Swarting stated that the iminent closing of the Navy bases north <br />of Pleasanton presented a possible opportunity for the 'ann and sur- <br />rounding community to acquire a swimming pool. After some discussion <br />as to the legal aspects of the pool being located on a Federal reser- <br />vation, it was decided that the Council would give the matter further <br />consideration. <br />Mr. Whiting spoke as a representative of the Alameda County Fair Asso- <br />ciation and pointed out that due to the recent fire at the `air Grounds, <br />and the probability of having a large. new building to care fora. the <br />Fair Association would have to do considerably more decorating than in <br />previous years. He requested that the Town contribute toward the dec- <br />orations and stated that the contributions would. be more 'than offset <br />by the benefits brought to the Town by-the Fair.. Councilman Brenner <br />stated tha the Town should back the Fair, and moved that a contribution <br />toward decorating the Town be made in the amount of :;300.00. The <br />motion was seconded by Councilman Hansen and unanimously approved by <br />all Councilem present. <br />Mr.•George West reported that he had just conferred with Greyhound Bus <br />officials and that they .had promised to improve the local service <br />immediately. <br />ACTION ON COMiUNICAT IONS : <br />A11 communications were ordered filed with the exception of that <br />from the Chamber of Commerce, which was to be discussed later in the <br />meeting. <br />ACTION ON PETITIONS: <br />On motion of Councilman Brenner, seconded by Councilman Oxsen and <br />approved unanimously, it was ordered that dance permits be approved as <br />requested for the Druid's Circle and for the Metro Music Co. <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS: <br />LAWS AND JUDICIARY COMMITTEE: Councilman Brenner stated that it <br />was practically impossible to •secure adequate policing. of public dances <br />for the existing scale of 455.00 and recommended that the amount be in- <br />creased to 0.50. Atty. Nilson was directed to investigate legalker- <br />requisits'to increasing the fee. Councilman Brenner reported no further <br />success toward procuring a new police car. The Mayor, on advice of <br />Atty. Nilson, stated that it was in order to advertise for anew car. - <br />STREETS AND BUILDING COMMITTEE: Councilman 3tcsen gave a lengthy <br />report on street problems. He reported receipt of a request from Mr. <br />Kolb to remove three trees from in front of his residence on Main 'St. <br />and to improve the entrance to his driveway on Division St. Councilman <br />Oxsen was directed to give a report on the trees at the next regular <br />meeting and to determine some Means of caring for the driveway. <br />Councilman Oxsen then reported that thes.treet sign in front of the city <br />Hall had been painted and requested the Clerk to endeavor to procure a <br />bill for the work recently done on Main St. at St. Mary's St. He then <br />brought up the matter of reponsibility for the repair of broken curbs. <br />After considerable discussion Councilman Oxsen moved that the Town <br />policy be, that the property owner be held responsible to repair damage <br />due to his or her own negligence, and that the town provide repairs for <br />damage from other causes. The motion was seconded by Councilman Hansen <br />and approved by the following vote: 'Aye, Councilmen Oxsen, Hansen, <br />Mezza and Trimmingham; not voting, Councilman Brenner. Councilman. <br />Oxsen then suggested that some means be adopted to stop the spilling <br />
