27 <br />PETITIONS RECEIVED: <br />Application for . dance from American Legion for night of <br />December 14, 1946.. <br />RECESS was ordered for examingation of Claims and Reports. <br />ACTION ON CLAIMS: The meeting was again called to order, and on <br />motion of Councilman Hansen, seconded by Councilman Mezza and <br />approved by all Councilmen present, it was ordered that Claims Nos. <br />490 to 514 incl., amounting to 01,052.95 be paid as presented. <br />ACTION ON REPORTS: All Officers' reports were approved and ordered <br />filed. <br />ACTION ON COIdMUNICATIONS: The State Disaster Council letter was <br />tabled pending investigation of action being taken by other communi- <br />ties. The letter of E.B. Stone & Son was referred to Councilman <br />Mezza for action. The purchase of Xmas Seals in the amount of 01.00 <br />was approved on motion of Councilman Oxsen, seconded by Councilman <br />Mezza and approved by all Councilmen present. Councilman Hansen was <br />reappointed by Resolution No. 1931 to serve a two year term as a <br />Director of the Mosquito Abatement District. The Clerk was directed <br />to advise J. C. Mendonca that permission would be granted to top the <br />trees in question providing the work be done under the supervision <br />of the Supt. of Streets. The Clerk was also directed to advise Mr. <br />Schneider that the Council had rejected his claim for damage and <br />would refer this claim to the Town's insurance-,carrier. <br />ACTION ON PETITIONS: The application of the American Legion for <br />permission to hold a dance on the night of December 14 was approved <br />on motion of Councilman Oxsen, seconded by Councilman Hansen and <br />approved by all Councilmen present. <br />COIdMvMITTEE REPORTS: <br />STREETS AND BUILDINGS: Councilman Oxsen reported that he had inves- <br />tigated Mr. Frank Nevis' request to remove a tree on Angela Street <br />near main St. and had found the tree to be on private property and <br />not subject to Town regulations. councilman Oxsen also reported that <br />he and contacted Mrs. Maser and had cleared up her complaint in con- <br />nection with street cleaning in Harris Acres. Councilman uxsen ad- <br />vised the ::ouncil that an Engineer should be hired before making any <br />detailed request for County assistance in paying for resurfacing a <br />portion of Main St. He also suggested the possibility of securing a <br />local engineer to do the work. The Clerk was directed to ask County <br />Surveyor Boggs if he would approve such an arrangement. , <br />PUBLIC UTILITIES: Councilman Mezza reported that the concrete flume <br />at the sewer farm was nearly completed with only one more pour to <br />make when work was stopped by rain. He also reported that Hanifen <br />was still tied up at the Kaiser plant and no work had been done on <br />cleaning the drainage ditch at the Sewer Farm. Mr. Cardoza had <br />complained of water 'backing from the Sewer Farm onto the property he <br />had leased from Mrs. O'Neill and a suit against the Town for damages <br />was a possibility. In order to expedite the work, Councilman Mezza <br />stated that he was investigating the possibility of getting a crane <br />from the California Rock Co. He also advised that steps were being <br />taken in an effort to dispose of the sludge at the Sewer Farm. <br />FIRE DEPT. AND CITY HALL: Councilman Hansen reported that he was <br />waiting on the plasterer for repairs in the Improvement Club rooms. <br />He also reported that to date it had been impossible to find colored <br />lights for the Xmas, tree decorations and that the Chamber of Commerce <br />had requested permission to install a Xmas scene sign either on . the <br />sign across Main St. or on the roof of the City Hall. It was de- <br />cided that permission be given to place the sign on the City Hall. <br />MAYOR TRIMINGHAM reported that he had explained to Mrs. Morgan the <br />Council's position in regard to the Women's Improvement Club proposal <br />to fix up a park at the rear of the City Hall. <br />
