become the property of the city. To the extent feasible, the books will be made <br /> accessible to employees. The maximum reimbursement for books an employee <br /> may receive shall not exceed $300.00 per fiscal year for full time employees, <br /> $225.00 for regular three- quarter time employees, and $150.00 for regular one- <br /> half time employees. To be reimbursed, the employee must submit a receipt from <br /> the college or university for the book purchase and an official transcript of grades. <br /> Section 21. Probationary Period <br /> 21.1 Length of Probationary Period <br /> Original and promotional appointments shall be tentative and subject to a <br /> probationary period of twelve (12) months actual service except for Police <br /> Dispatchers who will be subject to an eighteen (18) month probationary period, <br /> but remain eligible to be considered for a salary adjustment after twelve (12) <br /> months. <br /> After serving a minimum of six (6) months in a probationary status following <br /> promotion, an employee whose performance has been evaluated as exceptional <br /> based upon the performance criteria enumerated in Section 6.4 may be removed <br /> from probationary status. <br /> 21.2 Notification Requirements <br /> A probationary employee shall be notified by the Deputy City Manager/Director <br /> of Human Resources forty-five (45) days prior to the expiration date of his/her <br /> probationary period. <br /> Within twenty-one (21) days prior to the expiration date of the probationary <br /> period, the Department Head shall file with the Deputy City Manager/Director of <br /> Human Resources a statement as to whether or not the probationary employee <br /> shall be retained in the position. <br /> An employee who is not rejected prior to the completion of the prescribed <br /> probationary period shall be deemed to have passed the prescribed probation <br /> period automatically subject to the provisions of Section 21.3 <br /> 21.3 Extension of Probationary Period <br /> If a probationary employee is off work due to a leave of absence, sick leave or <br /> disability leave or any combination thereof for a period exceeding thirty (30) <br /> consecutive calendar days, said employee's probationary period shall be extended <br /> automatically by the length of said leave. The probationary period may be <br /> extended by the City Manager for a period not to exceed ninety (90) days, in order <br /> to further evaluate the performance of the probationary employee. <br /> -27 - <br />
