Motion: It was m/s by Thorne /Cook Kallio to approve Consent Calendar as submitted and as noted. <br /> Motion passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Cook Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> 17. East Bay Regional Park District 75th Anniversary <br /> Councilmember McGovern introduced Anne Wieskamp, East Bay Regional Park District Board of <br /> Directors. Ms. Wieskamp thanked the Council for their support, noted that tonight's action on Tyler <br /> Ranch adds another 1,100 acres to the district's near 100,000 acres, and attributed the <br /> development and expansion of Pleasanton Ridge and Shadow Cliffs to strong local support. <br /> Councilmember McGovern read the proclamation declaring July 2009 as Parks and Recreation <br /> Month in Pleasanton. Susan Andrade -Wax, Director of Parks and Recreation, accepted the <br /> proclamation and thanked the Council for its advocacy and support. <br /> 18. Leadership Pleasanton Presentation <br /> Joyce Shapiro, coordinator of the Leadership Pleasanton Program for the Pleasanton Chamber of <br /> Commerce thanked the City for its involvement as well as the program's generous sponsors. She <br /> introduced Gary Dominguez who detailed the evolution and efforts of this year's Social Committee <br /> 19. Public Comment <br /> Karla Brown stated that on July 16, 2009, California's First Appellate Court overturned an earlier <br /> decision of the Alameda County Superior Court with regards to Oak Grove, remanded the matter to <br /> trial court, and required the City to repeal Ordinance No. 1961 or put the matter to public vote. She <br /> asked the Council to forgo the hefty cost of an election by repealing Ordinance No. 1961. <br /> Kathy Dowding read the names of the 74 soldiers most recently killed in Iraq and Afghanistan and <br /> asked the public to remember Bowe Bergdahl who remains in captivity in Afghanistan. She <br /> extended an invitation to the next Pleasantonians for Peace at the next vigil. <br /> Mike Benham reported on the events of June 1, 2009 concerning Iran's presidential election and <br /> asked the Council to join city and government officials from around the world in expressing <br /> solidarity with the Iranian community and naming the human and civil rights of the Iranian people an <br /> international concern. He provided a sample letter for consideration. <br /> Siroos Mirzadeh and Sima Yazdani reiterated Mr. Benham's request. <br /> Tamim Hamid voiced concern for the lack of suitable tennis courts and the upcoming increase by <br /> Lifetime Tennis. He asked the Council to consider alternatives for providing families with tennis <br /> opportunities without being gouged. <br /> Mayor Hosterman acknowledged Mr. Hamid's concerns, said she is pleased the City is able to <br /> provide these community services given the economic climate and that the City would seek to <br /> achieve some balance. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 3 of 14 July 21, 2009 <br />
