ATTA CHMENT 4
From: Kelly French
Sent: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 1:44 PM
To: Maria Hoey
Subject: Support for Joe Barone's request
Dear Pleasanton Planning Commission Committee Members,
I habitually read the Pleasanton Weekly Online Express that arrives in my e -mail inbox
on a daily basis. This morning I read about Joe Barone's request to obtain a permit to
have outdoor entertainment until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m.
Friday and Saturday. I have been to Barone's for the Thursday night live entertainment
several times and was amazed at the beautiful ambiance they have created. A great crowd
and good music in a beautiful outdoor location it seemed to good to be true. This is
just what our downtown has been lacking. If the City of Pleasanton truly wants to re-
vitalize downtown, a good start would be approving Joe Barone's request.
It's no secret that the nightlife in Pleasanton has been less than desirable for sometime.
Many of our residents end up going to Livermore or Walnut Creek for a fun night out.
Now you have the opportunity to approve a request that will benefit the residents of
Pleasanton and keep our tax dollars here too. The outdoor patio area of Barone's caters to
a more mature crowd, a crowd that probably wouldn't frequent Redcoats, the Sunshine
Saloon, the Poppi Lounge or Aura (which all have 20- something crowds).
Joe Maricela Barone are exemplary citizens of our community and they have put a lot
of work into bringing an exciting new element to our downtown. Let's support their
efforts and approve this request. Living downtown offers a lot of conveniences, but with
that will come some inconveniences. Just as there are conveniences and inconveniences
living by a school or a swim club or any other place where the public gathers. Mandating
that the music stop at 10:00 PM on a Friday or Saturday night is unreasonable.
I also think it is reasonable to extend the restaurant and bar hours to 2 a.m. daily at
Barone's and Redcoats. Why is a 1:00 AM closing time imposed on our bars in the first
place? I was shocked when the lights came on at 12:30 AM at Redcoats and learned
about the 1:00 AM city ordinance. I had never heard of a bar closing so early. Isn't pretty
much standard that bars close at 2:00 AM?
In conclusion, during these tough economic times, I hope that you will do all that you can
to help out downtown businesses so that they can survive. If the City of Pleasanton truly
wants to re- vitalize downtown, a good start would be approving Joe Barone's request. If I
had written the request, I would have asked for a permit for outdoor entertainment on
Thursdays until 11:00 PM and Friday /Saturday until midnight. Joe's request is extremely
reasonable. Please approve it!!!
Thank you for considering my opinion as you make your decision.
Sincerely,
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the Planning Commission
Kelly French After Distribution of Packet
Date Distributed:' /M /i
