I am a Downtown
Pleasanton property owner and I support this amendment.
It is extremely important to keep the Downtown a vibrant place, not only for the enjoyment of the
people, but to help keep downtown businesses alive and well. As I am sure you are aware,
Downtown has been suffering from a spate of vacant retail space. In order for downtown
Pleasanton to remain a viable retail location, especially in difficult economic times, it is important
to give people a reason to come to our downtown and to stay once they get there. It is becoming
increasingly more difficult to compete with all the variety of activities in Livermore's downtown, not
to mention Danville, for people who want to have a venue after dinner. By denying Barone's
application for the amendment to their Conditional Use Permit, you would be giving people one
more reason not to come to our downtown and to visit other downtowns that offer more
entertainment options.
Living in a downtown setting comes with a bustle of activity, special events, a variety of
restaurants and shops to patronize. And yes, with this comes some inconveniences like closed
streets for special events, traffic and noise. This is a small price to pay for the benefits of
downtown living, and are obvious considerations when you make the decision to live downtown.
All of the activities, easy access to shopping, dining and entertainment is why people pay a
premium to be close to the downtown. If you take these things away, then you not only lose
businesses but you lose residents as well, and ultimately, you end up with a dying downtown.
As a downtown property owner and resident, I ask you to support the Barone's in helping to make
our Downtown a better more vibrant place and approve their Conditional Use Permit. Thank you
for giving me the opportunity to show support for our local businesses and to stump for keeping
the downtown alive.
Sincerely,
Kristin Davidson Banducci
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the Planning Commission
After Distribution of Packet
Date Distributed: 491/
