BACKGROUND
The primary objective of this project is to develop plans for the renovation of landscape
plantings and irrigation systems for the existing roadway median islands on Stoneridge
Drive (from Stoneridge Mall Road, west to Foothill Road), Stoneridge Mall Road (from
Stoneridge Drive to Workday Way, formerly Fabian Court), and Springdale Avenue
(from Stoneridge Drive, north to Stoneridge Mall Road). These landscaped areas have
declined in appearance over the past several years, and are now at a point where the
irrigation systems and plantings need to be renovated. The goal of this project is to
return the street landscaping to a more attractive and easily maintained condition
commensurate with other areas of the City.
The consultant's work would follow the direction of the City Landscape Architect and the
Parks Maintenance Superintendent, and conform to City Standard Specifications and
Details. The design work would be developed in accordance with Alameda Waste
Management and Recycling Board's Bay Friendly Landscape Guidelines.
DISCUSSION
Staff identified several firms that specialize in work of this type; however, of all of the
firms identified, Thomas Baak and Associates was determined to be the most qualified
to design the project. The Scope of Work proposed by Thomas Baak and Associates is
complete and comprehensive, and staff believes that the proposed fees are equitable.
A copy of Thomas Baak and Associates' proposal and the recommended Professional
Services Agreement are attached for the Council's review.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve y:
Susan Andrade -Wax David P.
