Presentation of Commendation to Martha Meltzer 2007 -09 Poet Laureate <br /> Councilmember Thorne thanked outgoing Poet Laureate Martha Meltzer and on behalf of the <br /> Council presented a commendation to her for her services. <br /> 13. Poetry reading by 2009 -11 Poet Laureate Deborah Grossman <br /> Connie Post, outgoing Poet Laureate for City of Livermore recognized the work of both Ms. Meltzer <br /> and Deborah Grossman. <br /> Councilmember Thorne introduced the new Poet Laureate Deborah Grossman and briefly <br /> described her achievements. <br /> Deborah Grossman thanked the Council for the opportunity to serve and read "Ode to a Bell a <br /> poem about the Firehouse Arts Center. <br /> 14. Public Comment <br /> Kay Ayala asked that the City Attorney update the community on the hearing which will be held this <br /> week by the Appeals Court. <br /> Mr. Roush noted there are oral arguments scheduled for Thursday morning in the First District <br /> Court of Appeals in San Francisco. A three -judge panel will hear arguments concerning the <br /> decision rendered in the trial court regarding the validity of the Referendum petition for the Lin /Oak <br /> Grove project and issue a decision within 90 days. <br /> Ms. Ayala said the ordinance passed last November takes care of hillside protections, the hearing is <br /> the final part of the issue and she was glad the hearing was set. She hoped the project will return to <br /> the Council with hillside protections in place and that the decision can either be rescinded or sent to <br /> the ballot. She voiced concern with a new flyer sent to a select group of residents which reads, "To <br /> help us make the new community at Lund Ranch the best it can be. <br /> Ted Kaye, Las Positas College Foundation, invited the City Council to the First Annual Los Positas <br /> College Leadership Day and discussed the day's events.
