DRAFT MASTER PLAN FOR THE OPTS

f . ~ t S,

.....".............

Abav.:
Waysid. Park
Bandstand location.
B<low:

Group picnic area.

BANDSTAND LOCATION The OPTS
Master Plan recommends locating the Bandstand as
shown. close to First St.. roughly in alignment with
the alley that connects Railroad Ave. with the pizza
restaurant parking lot on Main St. This location is
the result of much consideration, and reRects the
consensus agreement of the Task Force.

Although all possible Bandstand locations have
inherent problems, the proposed location generates
problems that are more easily and affordably solv-
able in the design phase than those of other loca-
tions. Some of the advantages of the bandstand's
proposed location follow.

. Good audience area size and shape (sight lines are
good).
. No glare from afternoon/evening sun for audience
(audience backs are to the sun).
. Good access to stage for set-up and maintenance.
. Bandstand is not located in zone of possible future
light rail improvements.
. Sound from performances is aimed toward down-
town, not residences.

. GROUP PICNIC AREA

Picnic facilities for groups of 20 to 80 are pro-
posed for DeLucchi Park. Picnic areas should
include tables, drinking fountains, barbeque grills,
trash receptacles, and lighting.

. EUCALYPTUS TREE

The OPTS Master Plan recommends that the
Eucalyptus tree remain in Wayside Park. Some mea-
sures should be taken (e.g., pruning, fences, signs) to
protect people in the park from falling branches.

WAYSIDE & DELUCCHI PARKS DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS
24
