DRAFT MASTER PLAN FOR THE OPTS

. ROSE GARDEN

A rose garden is proposed at the northeast cor-
ner of the intersection of Railroad Ave. and Neal St.
Special consideration should be given to the view of
the park from the west on Neal St. (as one
approaches from Main St.). This corner may be an
appropriate location for a focal element, such as a
sign, monument, or public sculpture.

~~"= ~~:,.,

r'Y

~
.....-~..- ~

':f'

.~

Above:
Proposed design
fOr Bandstand at
Wayside Park.

. BANDSTAND

The DPTS Master Plan proposes a new band-
stand located in a mid-park location close to First St.
The new bandstand would be an open air structure
in a park setting. It would be a venue for a wide
range of outdoor dramatic and musical perfor-
mances, as well as providing an attractive shaded and
sheltered place to sit or garher when no perfor-
mances are planned. The size of the performance
area would be approximately 1,000 square feet. The
stage would extend slightly into the audience (a
thrust stage). and would be surrounded by a hard
surface apron suitable for sitting or dancing. The
audience area would be formed by a gently sloping
lawn, suitable for informal seating during perfor-
mances (e.g., on blankets), and informal play at
other times (e.g.. frisbee, playing catch, etc.).

WAYSIDE &: DELUCCHI PARKS DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS
22
