DATE: September 14, 1983 PLANNING COMMISSION CITY OF PLEASANTON COUNTY OF ALAMEDA STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 2354 A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION ENDORSING THE DRAFT ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ORDINANCE CODE OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON BY ADDING TITLE V, CHAPTER 8, ARTICLE 5, NEWSRACKS AND SIMILAR DISPENSERS WHEREAS, as a result of recent proliferation of newsracks in Pleasanton which have caused many problems including interfering with traffic and parking; interfering with the proper use of on- street parking by blocking the opening of vehicle doors; obstruction of vision at intersections, driveways, and crosswalks; tempting drivers to stop in illegal zones, thereby causing confusion and congestion to traffic flow; the obstruction of clear space necessary for pedestrians and bicyclists using sidewalks and ped -bike paths; interference with the public's use of such public facilities as public telephones, mailboxes, and other facilities; WHEREAS, the Planning Commission asked the City staff to draft an ordinance governing newsracks within the City limits of Pleasanton; and WHEREAS, the City Staff worked with the various newspapers distributed in the City regarding the proposed ordinance. NOW, THEREFORE, THE PLANNING COMMISIION RESOLVES THE FOLLOWING: Section 1. Recommends approval of the draft ordinance provided at their duly noticed public hearing of September 14, 1983 as herein described and attached as Exhibit "A Section 2. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ON THE 14th DAY OF SEPTEMBER 1983 BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: AYES: Commissioners Doherty, Getty, Lindsey, Wilson and Jamieson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None
