CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA ORDINANCE NO. 1493 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PLRASANTON AMRNDING THE pT.RASANTON MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING THERETO SECTION 2.04. 015, CONCERNING THE TERM OF OFFICE FOR COUNCILMEMBERS AND MAYOR THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: Chapter 2.04 (City Council) of the Pleasanton Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding thereto Section 2.04.015, to read as follows: "Section 2.04.015 Term of Office A. The City Council shall meet on the first Tuesday after it receives from the registrar of voters or from the City Clerk a certified statement of the results of an election for City Council and Mayor. A special meeting may be called for that purpose. At that meeting the City Council shall canvass the election returns, declare elected the persons having the highest number of votes and install the newly elected officers. B. Each such Councilmember shall hold office for a term of four (4) years from and after the date and time at which he or she was declared elected and was installed and shall hold office until his or her successor is elected and qualified. The Mayor shall hold office for a term of two (2) years from and after the date and time at which the Mayor was declared elected and was installed and shall hold office until his or her successor is elected and qualified. The Mayor and Members of Council serving upon the adoption of this ordinance shall continue to serve for the terms to which they were elected." Section 2: This ordinance shall be published once within fifteen (15) days after its adoption in "The Valley Times," a newspaper of general circulation published in the City of Pleasanton. Section 3: This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days after the date of its final passage and adoption.
