CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 1493 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PLRASANTON <br /> AMRNDING THE pT.RASANTON MUNICIPAL CODE BY <br /> ADDING THERETO SECTION 2.04. 015, CONCERNING <br /> THE TERM OF OFFICE FOR COUNCILMEMBERS AND <br /> MAYOR <br /> <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: Chapter 2.04 (City Council) of the Pleasanton <br /> Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding thereto <br /> Section 2.04.015, to read as follows: <br /> <br /> "Section 2.04.015 Term of Office <br /> <br /> A. The City Council shall meet on the first Tuesday <br /> after it receives from the registrar of voters or <br /> from the City Clerk a certified statement of the <br /> results of an election for City Council and Mayor. <br /> A special meeting may be called for that purpose. <br /> At that meeting the City Council shall canvass the <br /> election returns, declare elected the persons <br /> having the highest number of votes and install the <br /> newly elected officers. <br /> <br /> B. Each such Councilmember shall hold office for a <br /> term of four (4) years from and after the date and <br /> time at which he or she was declared elected and <br /> was installed and shall hold office until his or <br /> her successor is elected and qualified. The Mayor <br /> shall hold office for a term of two (2) years from <br /> and after the date and time at which the Mayor was <br /> declared elected and was installed and shall hold <br /> office until his or her successor is elected and <br /> qualified. The Mayor and Members of Council <br /> serving upon the adoption of this ordinance shall <br /> continue to serve for the terms to which they were <br /> elected." <br /> <br /> Section 2: This ordinance shall be published once within fifteen <br /> (15) days after its adoption in "The Valley Times," a <br /> newspaper of general circulation published in the City of <br /> Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> Section 3: This ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days <br /> after the date of its final passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
