SECTION 5 <br /> <br />LIME TREATED SU~BASE <br /> <br />General: Lima treated subbase not less than six inches (6") in depthI <br />may be substituted for aggregate subbase subject to suitability as <br />determined by tests performed on the material to be treated prior to <br />construction and leith the specific approval of the Engineer. <br /> <br />TestinE: Testin~ shall be performed at no cost to the City by a Soils <br />Engineer approved by the City. <br /> <br />5-03 Naterials: <br /> <br />a® <br /> <br />Lime: The lime used shall be a commercial grade hydrated lime <br />(ASTM C-51). When sampled by the Soils Engineer at the point <br />of delivery, the sample shell contain not less than 75 percent <br />of calcium hydroxide (CaOH), as determined by the "Rapid Sugar <br />l~thod" outlined in the ASTM Designation: C 25. Slurry lime <br />may be used for the stabilizing agent. The material shall be <br />tested at the source and at the time of mixing to determine the <br />percentage of calcium hydroxida (CaOH) available. The method <br />of determination shall be by titration or other standard (ASTM) <br />me~bod approved by the Soils Engineer. <br /> <br />h® <br /> <br />Soil: The soil to be treated shall be approved sandy or silty <br />clays suitable for treatment with lime in the opinion of the Soils <br />Engineer and so certified by him. It shall be free of organic <br />material, asphalt concrete, oil treated rock, Portland cement <br />concrete or other deleterious materials. All clods larger than <br />t~o and one-half inches (2¥') shall either be broken up or <br />removed prior to treatment. <br /> <br />c. Water: The water shall contain no minerals or chemicals which <br /> will adversely affect the lflne atabilizins processes. <br /> <br />5-04 Equipment:, <br /> <br />Spreadin~ Equipment:' Dr7 lime shall be spread by an approved box <br />or an approved self-unloadins bulk tanker truck equipped ~ith <br />integral screw conveyors. <br /> <br />5.1 <br /> <br />EXHIBIT "A" <br /> <br /> <br />
