CilY OF PLEASAN- ON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF C^LII:ORNIA <br /> <br />RI~S 0 I-IJTIO N NO, 66-45 <br /> <br />REQUESTING THE U.S. POST OFFICE DEPARTMENT TO <br />RELEASE THE CITY OF PLEASANTON FROM CURRENT <br />REGULATIONS REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF <br /> CURB-SIDE MAIL BOXES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, new regulations of the U.S. Post Office Departmentt <br />require the installation of curb-side mail boxes in all new <br />subdivisions; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton is requiring subdividers <br />and developers within the City to place all electric utilities <br />underground, to dedicate to the City neighborhood parks and <br />open space, and other similar aesthetic benefits in all new <br />residential areas; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton requires the installation <br />of public service easements along the property owner's side of <br />the sidewalk, thereby rendering the curb and sidewalk contiguouss, <br />which would, in turn, place curb-side mail boxes and posts <br />within the sidewalk area; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,that the City Council of <br />the City of Pleasanton considers the installation of curb-side <br />mail boxes to be inconsistent with this City's planning and <br />aesthetic goals, and that said curb-side mail boxes would createe <br />a hazard for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City <br />of Pleasanton respectfully requests that the U.S. Post Office <br />Department release the City of Pleasanton from compliance with <br />said regulations regarding curb-side mail boxes at the earliest <br />possible time. <br /> <br />ADOPTED: April 4, 1966. <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Bubics, Gerton, Harding and McWilliams <br /> <br />NOES: None <br /> <br />ABSENT: Mayor Long <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />JO/}{N B, LONG, <br /> <br />HELEN WOODWARD, ~ity ~_~Cl~rk <br /> <br /> <br />
