PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED Commissioner Rohens advised that she met with Chamb li Com~tssion~' Arkin noted that he loves the LEED certification for this building, but has a ilrobl ,~n with the land use, noting that there are nota lot of mixed uses in the Business Park. He noted ~ he also has a hard time with the architecture. He stated what he would like to see · rchitecture that fits in with the surrounding buildings. Commissioner Arkin stated that he has a difficult time approving this project knowing it will not go to Council, and that the Council should have an opportunity to decide if th~ zoning of this property should be reviewed. Commissioner Roberts advised that she would love this building almost anywhere else. She noted fhat she loves the LEED certification and she feels the uaffic issue is fine. She noted that She believes the rest of the community should have some say about this decision, and if the Planning Commission must initiate a rezoning so that there is more public input, she would support that. She commented that the guests at the extended stay hotels in the area need a place to purohase groceries and eat. She described a building in Berkeley which provided a deli, meat market, a sandwich place, and a separate restaurant for evening dining. Commissioner Mans voiced her agreement with Commissioner Roberts' comments. Chairperson Sullivan advised that he also ag,~es. He noted that he appreciates the applicant's efforts with the Green Building component. He advised that he is concerned with the comment ~n the Iraffic report regarding the unacceptable levels of service projected for intersections during Ihe peak hour whether or not the proposed project is developed and the conclusion that the prOposed prOject is not considered to significantly impact the local roadway system. Chairperson Sullivan stated that he has a problem with this rationale. Commissioner Arkin moved that Case puD-81-30-34D be denied and that the Planning Commission initiate · process to reevaluate the use of the land on this site. Commissioner Maas leeondml the motion. Commissioner Roberts sta~d that they are taking this action to allow for others to look at this site to consider the possibility of other uses, and that the Planning Commission is not really denyh~ the design of the building.
