Employees with approval to enroll in the educational plan on or before February 28, 1990 shall <br /> upon successful completion of the approved educational level be entitled to the incentive pay in <br /> effect at the time their enrollment was approved. All current employees receiving incentive pay <br /> under the previous MOU shall continue to receive that educational incentive pay and this Section <br /> 17.1 shall apply to all applications for education incentive pay after March 1, 1990. <br /> 18.2 Tuition Reimbursement <br /> Regular full time employees shall be eligible for reimbursement of tuition expenses for college or <br /> university courses successfully completed with a grade of "C" or better provided said courses have <br /> been approved in advance by the Chief of Police and the college /universities from which the <br /> courses are taken is accredited by the Westem Association of Schools and Colleges. <br /> Tuition shall be reimbursed in the amount and at the rate for internal degrees levied by California <br /> State University at Hayward in effect at the time the employee enrolled in the courses for which <br /> tuition reimbursement is requested. Employees completing courses from <br /> colleges /universities on a semester system shall be reimbursed at one and one half (1-1/2) <br /> times the equivalent California State University at Hayward quarter hour rate. <br /> The maximum amount of tuition reimbursement an employee may receive per fiscal year shall not <br /> exceed the total tuition levied by California State University at Hayward for the four quarter <br /> academic year beginning with the preceding fall quarter. <br /> Requests for tuition reimbursement shall be submitted at the completion of each quarter or <br /> semester and be accompanied by an official receipt verifying the tuition amount and the tuition <br /> payment, and an official transcript of grades. <br /> 18.3 Book Reimbursement <br /> Regular full time employees may be reimbursed for books required for college /university courses <br /> approved by the Chief of Police and successfully completed with a grade of "C" or better. Upon <br /> reimbursement, the books shall become the property of the City. The maximum reimbursement <br /> for books an employee may receive shall not exceed $300.00 per fiscal year. To be reimbursed, <br /> the employee must submit a receipt from the college or university for the book purchase and an <br /> official transcript of grades. <br /> Section 19. Probationary Period <br /> 19.1 Length of Probationary Period <br /> All original appointments shall be tentative and subject to a probationary period of eighteen (18) <br /> months actual service. All appointments as a result of lateral transfers or re- employment shall be <br /> tentative and subject to a probationary period of twelve (12) months of actual service. All <br /> promotional appointments to the position of Police Officer shall be tentative and subject to a <br /> probationary period of eighteen (18) months of actual service. All promotional appointments to <br /> the classification of Police Sergeant shall be tentative and subject to a probationary period of <br /> twelve (12) months actual service. The City Council may by resolution establish a longer <br /> probationary period for specified classes. <br /> 19.2 Notification Requirements <br /> A probationary employee and his/her department head shall be notified of the expiration of the <br /> employee's probationary period forty -five (45) days in advance of said date. <br /> - 14 - <br />
