THE PROJECTS <br /> <br /> As briefly exphined under "~md Amhorisarion', fore- <br />going, the proceeds of this bond offering will be applied <br />to two general purposes: acqUisition of 1~tk sites and con- <br />stcuction thereon, and improvement of rite protection facili- <br />tie~ The projects are described following, in order of their <br />magnitude, <br /> <br />THE PARK PROJECT <br /> The park bonds are offered p~t to authorimtion <br />by electors of the City of Plearanton to incur debt" . . . <br />for park and recreation facilities, including acquisition of <br />lnnds, easements and rights of way necessary or convenient <br />for park sites and improvement thereof for park and recre- <br />ation purposes; and other works, property or structures <br />necessary or convenient for park and recreation facilities". <br /> Of the tota/anthotizarion of $1,070,000 for l~trk bonds, <br />$750,000 were sold as part of Series A on February 20, <br />1968. The proceeds were used to acquire park sites, tern- <br />porarily named Orloff Park and Highland Oak Park, and <br />for development of Kottinger Park, already owned by the <br />City. The remaining anthorimdon of $320,000 is offered as <br />part of Series B. It will be used for comrruction of park sites <br />and for peripheral costs. The City also Ires *tvailable for <br />projec~ pu}po~es a Federal Open-Sp~ce Grant of $218,750 <br />which was approyed June 10, 1968. <br /> The Orloff Park site is bordered by $nnti Rim Ro~ <br />and Black Avenue, to the east and south real~'tively, and <br />by the Amadur Shopping Center to the north. Residences <br />adjoin the park site to the west, and across Santa Rim <br />Road to the east. Land surface is relatively flat. The total <br />site occupies approximately 23 acres. This community pork <br />will form the nodem of the City of Pleasanton's park ~ <br />recreation system. It will include an aquatic center complex <br />with 2 outdoor swimming pools, a wading lmol, m~l re- <br />lated facilities. The perk will also include plan.aM areas <br />for children, by age group, as well as picnic facilities. <br /> The Highland Oak Park site is south of Highway 50 <br /> <br />and adjacent to Highway 680 on the east. Muirwood Drive <br />defmea the western edge, and Clovenvood Lane the south <br />edge. The periphet7 of the lark, with the exception of the <br />new Highway 680 portion, is id residential development. <br />The total park area is appro~rlm,tely 15 acres. <br /> Kotringer Park is being developed with landscape <br />materials n~tive to Calilurnia's coastal valleys and"Siesta <br />Foothills. This park is an elongated piece of property ~long <br />a creek bed where many oak and eucalyptus trees are <br />a/ready growing. The design plan emphasizes a variety of <br />tree groves, and additional trees will be phnted to stress <br />a variety of colors m~l shalx~ Some initial development of <br />Kottinger Park was undert~l~en by the City prior to authur- <br />ization of bond funds. Construction paid for from Series A <br />bond proceeds began in mid-1968, and is expected m be <br />completed by mid-1969. The 14~ acre sire provides park <br />and recreation service m the residential area immediately <br />east of the central business district. It will include play. <br />ground and sports facilities. <br /> <br /> THE FIRE PROTECTION PROJECT <br /> <br /> The llre protection bouds are o£rered l?ursoant to au- <br /> thorization by electors of the City of Pleasmton to incur <br /> debt" . . . for fire station improvements, including con- <br /> struction of new fire stations on-land owned by the City <br /> and remodeling and expansion of the existing main fire <br /> station, together with furniture and f~xtores therefor; and <br /> other works, property or structures necessary or convenient <br /> for fire station improvements". <br /> Of .the total anthoriz~zion of 1t465,000 for fire improve- <br />. meats, $250,000 was told as part of Series A. It will be used <br />to remodel+ expand and furnish the main fire station. Con- <br />strucrion will begin in mid-1968 ~ud will be completed in <br />the sun'er of 1969. The remaining $215,000 is offered as <br />part of Series B. Proceeds will be applied to construction <br />of two new fire starion.~,--famishings and peripheral costs, <br />including legal and other professional services. <br /> <br /> <br />
