CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF' CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 69-247 <br /> <br />URGING COMPLETION OF ACQUISITION OF POINT REYES <br /> NATIONAL SEASHORE <br /> <br /> The Point Reyes National S~shore is the only such facil. <br /> Ity on the West Coast of the United States; and <br /> <br /> Although the Point Reyes National Seashore was authorizei <br /> by the Congress of the United States in 1962, only <br /> 22,540 acres out of a total.53,480 acres have been ac- <br /> quired for park purposes to date; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: The present park ownership.within the boundary is hope- <br /> lessly disjointed and inoperable as a park unit; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br />The remaining prlvate lands within the Park's authorized <br />boundary are unduly burdened by uncertain Federal in- <br />tentions of future acquisition and by rising prices, <br />and also have been subject to constant trespassing by <br />park visitors; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br />Existing large privately owned parcels including some of <br />the most valuable potential park land are in imminent <br />danger of being divided into smaller ownerships and <br />developed; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br />The people of the United States have been promised the <br />use of this great national resource, and its preservatio <br />is vital to present and fu~jure generations of Americans; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: <br /> <br />The present and potential recreational value of the <br />Point Reyes National Seashore may be best measured by <br />the more than 600~000 visitors which visit the Seashore <br />each year. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Counci~ ~f the City o <br />Pleasanton, California, .urges the President of the ~ted States <br />and the current administration to do everything within their power <br />to complete this acquisition project at the earliest possible <br />opportunity. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTNER RESOLVED that the Clerk of this G~u~ctlis hereby <br />directed to send certified copies of the ~ithin Resolution $o the <br />Honorable Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States;"the <br />Honorable Ronald Reagan, Governor of California; the Honorable <br />Walter J. Hickel, Secretary of the InteriOr; Mr. George B. Hartzog <br />Director of the National Park Service; Mr. Robert P.
