RE:

CITY OF PLEASANTON
COUNTY OF ALAMEDA
STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION ~'~O 70-71

DISAPPROVAL OF PROPOSED INCREASE OF FIRST CLASS
MAIL RATES

WHEREAS:

WHEREAS:

NOW,

DATED:

It is understood that Congress is considering raising
Mail rates and that the rates for first class mail will
be raised considerably more than those for bulk mail; an.
It is felt that commercial bulk mailers should bear a
greater portion of the increased cost of providing mail
service and that accordingly the rates for bulk mailing
should be raised by an amount at least equal to the rate
proposed for first class mail.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:

1. That the United States Congress, the United States Post
Office, the League of California Cities, the Alameda
County Mayors Conference, and such other bodies and
individuals as considered appropriat% be advised that
the City Council of the City of Pleasanton strongly
opposes the currently proposed mail rate increases which
discriminate in favor of bulk mail and against first
class mailing, and strongly urges that the United States
Congress raise the bulk mail rates in order to equalize
the increased burden of providing mail service.

April 6, 1970

BERNARD T.
