CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />;'~ES©LUTIOIq NO. 70-70 <br /> <br />REQUESTING THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF <br />CALIFORNIA TO INSTITUTE A SPECIAL STUDY AS TO THE FEASI- <br />BILITY OF REQUIRING RAILROADS THROUGHOUT THE STATE TO <br />BEAUTIFY RAILROAD RIGHTS OF WAY IN URBAN AREAS THROUGH <br />PROPER LANDSCAPING AND MAINTENANCE THEREOF <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />NOW, <br /> <br />the City of Pleasanton is traversed by rights-of-way of <br />the Western Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads througl <br />large portions of the City; and <br /> <br />the City of Pleasanton is attempting to beautify the City <br />through a program of landscaping public property and <br />encouraging beautification of private property; and <br /> <br />throughout the State of California and across the Nation <br />a similar public need for beautification of State and Fed. <br />erally financed highways through proper clean-up and <br />landscaping has been recognized; and <br /> <br />the City of Pleasanton believes that a comparable public <br />need exists for the landscaping of railroad rights-of-way <br />where they pass through urban areas throughout the State <br />of California; and <br /> <br />the City of Pleasanton believes that a comparable public <br />need exists for the landscaping of railroad rights-of-way <br />where they pass through urban areas throughout the State <br />of California; and <br /> <br />the City of Pleasanton believes that the need for beauti- <br />fication of railroad rights-of-way in urban areas is <br />State-wide, and a uniform policy should be adopted througl <br />out the State; and <br /> <br />the Public Utilities Commission of the State of Californi~ <br />has exclusive control over railroads operating within the <br />State of California, and has the authority to itself <br />initiate studies as to the public need where railroads <br />are affected; <br /> <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City <br /> of Pleasanton does hereby request the Public Utilities <br /> Commission of the State of California to institute a <br /> special study as to the feasibility of requiring rail- <br /> roads operating within the State to initiate a program <br /> of beautification of railroad rights-of-way in urban <br /> areas by requiring the landscaping and maintenance of <br /> said right-of-way. <br /> <br /> <br />
