CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF C&LIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 71-60 <br /> <br /> RE: SENATE BILL 333, RELATING TO COMPULSORY <br /> ARBITRATION WITH LOCAL SAFETY EMPLOYEES <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Senate Bill 333 has been introduced in the Legislature and <br /> would, if adopted, require cities who fail to reach agree- <br /> ment with respect to wages, hours and working conditions <br /> with firemen and policemen to proceed to compulsory <br /> binding arbitration with such employees; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Such a requirement would effectively divest cities of the <br /> power to deal with the wages, hours and working condition: <br /> <br /> . of a substantial portion of their employees while leaving <br /> cities with the responsibility of financing the wages~ <br /> hours and working conditions of the employees to which <br /> Senate Bill 333 relates; and <br /> <br />WHEP~AS, .no provision is made for financial aid to cities in the <br /> event that arbitration awards exceed the amount of money <br /> a city has available to fund wages, hours and working <br /> conditions; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the use of so-called impartial third parties who are not <br /> elected and, thus, not responaible to the taxpayers and <br /> citizens of the community is not in the public interest <br /> or consistent with the concept of representative govern- <br /> ment. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />me <br /> <br />DA~F~D: <br /> <br />That the City Council of the City of Pleasanton objects <br />most strenuously to the provis~ Senate Bill BBB <br />relating to compulsory arbit~i~twee~ic~ agenele <br />and police and fire emp~,~a ts~d~£~at. <br /> <br /> <br />
