CITY OF PLEASANTON
COUNTY OF ALAMEDA
STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION NO. 71-218

RE:

APPROVAL OP SPLITTING OF TELEPHONE BOOK

WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed and understands Pacific

Telephone's proposal to separate the existing Southern
Alameda County Telephone Directory into two separate
directories with the directories to be known as:

FREMONT - HAYWARD
NEWARK - UNION CITY
including Ashland, Castro Valley
Mount Eden, San Lorenzo

LIVERMORE - PLEASANTON
Sunol and vicinities; and

WHEREAS, the proposed separation follows a natural boundary created

by the mountains separating these two areas the obvious effect of
which would be two smaller directories better fitting local callin~

patterns and easier location of listings in the White Pages; and

WHEREAS, the City Council further understands that advertising
rates will be reduced by approximately 50% in the Livermore,
Pleasanton, etc., directory, and that the separation will defer an
expected increase, due to growth, in advertising rates in the
Fremont, Hayward, etc. directory; and

WHEREAS, the City Council concurs with Pacific Telephone that the
proposal is in the best interests of the majority of residents and
businesses in the area;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS:

1. The City Council hereby approves and recommends the here-
inabove-referred-to proposal by Pacific Telephone Company
