CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 01-005 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PLEASANTON UNIFIED <br />SCHOOL DISTRICT (PUSD) CHARACTER EDUCATION <br />PROGRAM <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Character Education is a nationwide initiative to strengthen the character of our <br /> next generation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Character Education programs are being successfully implemented in the <br /> Pleasanton Unified School District; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />educators agree that people do not automatically develop good character and <br />therefore, conscientious efforts must be made by families, institutions and <br />individuals to help young people develop the essential traits and characteristics that <br />comprise good character; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the Pleasanton City Council and the PUSD School Board recognize that <br />individuals are responsible for their actions and that daily decisions should be <br />based upon moral standards which are the basis for the six expected behaviors <br />identified by PUSD, namely; Integrity, Honesty, Responsibility, Respect, <br />Compassion, and Self-Discipline; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these six expected behaviors transcend cultural, religious, and socio-economic <br /> differences; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />by following these "Six Expected Behaviors" in their daily lives, Pleasanton's <br />youth will contribute significantly to the future strength of our society and local <br />community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the Pleasanton City Council, in partnership with Pleasanton Unified School <br />District, will work with organizations and individual citizens to reemphasize the <br />importance of our shared values and help expand character education programs <br />and activities Citywide. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> <br />
