CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 00-143 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE OFFICE OF COMMUNITY <br />ORIENTED POLICING "COPS IN THE SCHOOLS" GRANT <br />AND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A SCHOOL RESOURCE <br />OFFICER PROGRAM <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City of Pleasanton has been awarded a $250,000 Federal Office of Community <br />Oriented Policing Grant to fund a School Resource Officer Program, staffed by <br />two police officers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />in a collaborative effort, members of the Pleasanton Police Department and the <br />Pleasanton Unified School District have developed a School Resource Officer <br />Program to improve both safety in our schools and the relationship between the <br />police and youth of our community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the "Cops in the Schools" grant requires matching funds in increasing increments <br /> over a three year period; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />at its meeting of December 5, 2000, the City Council received a report from the <br />Chief of Police (SR 00:323) describing the School Resource Officer Program and <br />the requirements of the "Cops in the Schools" grant. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br />Accepts the "Cops in the Schools" Grant and the creation of a School Resource <br />Officer Program in the City of Pleasanton. <br /> <br />Section 2: <br /> <br />Approves the allocation of $96,404 to fund salaries and benefits for two new <br />police officer positions in the Police Department and $9,800 to fund safety <br />equipment for those police officers. <br /> <br />Section 3: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
