CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOI,UTION NO. 00-089 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN THE "SPARE THE AIR CITY AND COUNTY" CAMPAIGN WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is conducting its voluntary Spare the Air program fxom June to October each year in the nine counties that comprise the San Francisco Bay Area; and WHEREAS, Spare the Air is now in its niuth year and has more than 1,000 public and private employers who have pledged to participate in the Spare the Air Program; and WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has experienced dramatic improvements in its air quality over the last 40 years, but still sees a large nmnber of days during the year wheu pollution exceeds state and national health standards; and WHEREAS, regional air pollution data for 1999/2000 will be especially critical because it will be used to determine if the Bay Area meets the national EPA ozone standards, adding greater urgency to voluntary air pollution reduction efforts; and WHEREAS, the Bay Area Clean Air Parmership (BayCAP) is a public-private partnership that supports voluntary efforts to improve the Bay Area's air, including the Spare the Air Program; and WHEREAS, BayCAP will recognize cities an counties that participate in the Spare the Air City and County" Campaign and carry the clean air theme city or countywide; and WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton wishes to obtain the designation of "Spare the Air City"; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: The City Council pledges that the City of Pleasanton will do the lbllowing: Category 1: Become a 3)gare the Air Employer Complete a registration form with coordinator information. Educate and notify employees of Spare the Air days.
