CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 94-130 <br /> <br />R!~F, OLUTION SUPPORTING ALA_M~BA COUNTY <br />MEASURE V ON THE NOVEMBER 8, 1994 BALI,OT <br /> <br />due to actions of the Stat~ of Caiifomia to shift property taxes from cities, <br />counties and special districts m Califomia schools, the amount of property tax <br />available to cities, counties and special districts has been reduced substantially; <br />and <br /> <br />as a result of this reduction in property tax revenue, the Alameda County Library <br />has substantially reduced service hours to a number of City and County libraries; <br />anti <br /> <br />in view of this servic~ reduction, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors has <br />placed Measure V on the ballot for the puq~ose of raising revenue over a five <br />year period to maintain and restore library services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is beneficial for the community to have additional library sea:vice hours; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Alameda County has requested that the Ple~unton City Council support Measure <br /> V as a means of restoring services to the PI,':,.,anton Library. <br /> <br />NOW, T!4Y~REFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br />The City Counc'~ supports Measure V as a result of the County's commitment to <br />spend all of the revenue from the speeiai tax which is attributable to parcels in <br />the City of Pleaunton on the Pleasanton Library and the County's agreement that <br />should the City of Plensanton decide to withdraw from the County Library System <br />during the iive years when the tax would be in effect, it will (to the extent it can <br />do so legally) continue to collect and to transfer the revenue from this special <br />parcel tax which is attributable to the parcels hi the City of Pleasanton to the City <br />for expenditure on library services. <br /> <br />Section 2: <br /> <br />The Council's approval is further predicated on the fact that the special parcel tax <br />would be an acceptable means of funding additional library services if it is <br />supported by two-thirds of the voters within the Alameda County Library System. <br /> <br /> <br />
