CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 94-63 <br /> <br />RESOLD'lION ESTABLISHING A FORMAL ORIENTATION <br />PROCESS FOR COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, themembersoftheCity'scommissionsplayanimportantroleinthedevelopment <br /> of City policy; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />an understanding of the role of the commission, its procedures, key issues, and <br />the legal responsibilities of commissionera is necessary for commissioners to <br />effectively discharge their duties; and <br /> <br />a formal orientation process for new commissioners will ensure that all <br />commissioners begin their assignment with at least a common basic understanding <br />Of the key aspects of their role as a commissioner; <br /> <br />NOW, TIF_REFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br />The City shall establish a formal Commissioner Orientation Program, to include <br />the following components: <br /> <br />An official Oath of Office ceremony, held at a City Council meeting if <br />possible. If the commissioner must take his or her seat before the Council <br />meailng following appointment, a separate Oath of Office ceremony and <br />reception will be held. <br /> <br />A meeting with the City Manager and key staff members, including the <br />department head responsible for the commission, and the primary staff <br />COntact for the commission, if other than the department head. The <br />commissioner will review the Commissioner Handbook and be briefed on: <br /> <br />(i) <br /> <br />(3) <br />(4) <br /> <br />(5) <br /> <br />The oommission's formal role and relationship to the City Council, <br />The commission's meeting procedures and typical interactions with <br />staff and Council, <br />the Brown Act, <br />Technical aspects of the commission's jurisdiction, such as the <br />types of issues that will be faced, and <br />Key issues or projects that the commission is or will be <br />considering. <br /> <br /> <br />
