CITY COUNCIL OF TIlE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALA1M~DA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 94-49 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF 1HE NATIONAL <br />IGNITION FACILrtTr AT 'I H E LAWRENCE LIVERMORE <br />NATIONAL LABORATORY <br /> <br />the proposed U.S. DeparUnent of Energy's National Ignition Facility will play <br />essential roles in safeguardlag the nation's security and in the development of a <br />clean, limitless energy supply; and <br /> <br />the economy of the State of California and the Bay Area have been heavily <br />impacted by defense reductions including significant bare closures, and by a slow <br />economic recovery; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the National Ignition Facility project will provide a significant economic incentive <br />to the region and the State with a broad spectrum of jobs and business for <br />Califomia's high technology business; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the U.S. D~partment of Energy and its Laboratories are integral to the local, Bay <br />Area and California business economy, and that Lawrence Livemore National <br />Laboratory is a vital and valuable resource for the Tri-Valley area in particular; <br />and <br /> <br />WllEREAS, <br /> <br />the National Ignition Facility will be imporlant hi sustaining the Lawrence <br />Livermore National Laboratory ar an outstanding national, state, regional and <br />local scientific, technological and education resource. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CiTY COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Sw~ion 1: <br /> <br />The City Council of the City of Plea~anton urges the U.S. Department of Energy <br />to construct and operate the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore <br />National Laboratory. <br /> <br /> <br />
