CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 78-158 <br /> <br />SUPPORT FOR CONTINUING LIBRARY SERVICE AT THE <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY BRANCH LIBRARY IN PLEASANTON <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of Pleasanton have heavily patronized the Alameda <br /> County Branch library in Pleasanton; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the County Board of Supervisors intends to close the library <br /> pending final funding determination as a result of Proposition <br /> 13's passage; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there has since been a high degree of citizen interest indicating <br /> strong support for library service and willingness for volunteer <br /> work to maintain that service. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVe)THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> INFORM THE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ITS SUPPORT FOR CONTINUING <br /> LIBRARY SERVICE; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED TEAT THE CITY COUNCIL RECOMMENDS THAT THE LIBRARY BE <br /> FUNDED AT THE BARE MINIMUM LEVEL TO REMAIN OPEN AND PROVIDE A PRO- <br /> FESSIONAL CADRE WITHOUT WHICH VOLUNTEER WORK CANNOT BE UTILIZED. <br /> IF NECESSARY, BORNOWING FEES OR OTHER SERVICE CHARGES, EXCEPT FOR <br /> SENIOR CITIZENS, SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED TO SUSTAIN MINIMUM LIBRARY <br /> SERVICE IN PLEASANTON <br /> <br />THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED ON JUNE 13, 1978, BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Brandes, Butler, Kephart, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />By Doris George, Deputy City Clerk <br /> <br />APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br /> <br /> <br />
