CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 79-198 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE PROPOSAL OF SAN JOSE MAYOR JANET <br />GRAY HAYES FOR FEDERAL PURCHASE OF UNDEVELOPED LAND IN THE <br />TAHOE BASIN AND URGING MAYOR HAYES TO REVERSE AND REPAIR <br />ENVIRO~IENTAL DAMAGE TO SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO BAY <br /> <br />WHEREA S, <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Basin are significant national resources; and <br /> <br />San Jose Mayor Janet Gray Hayes has announced a plan to "save" Lake Tahoe <br />through Federal purchase of undeveloped land in the Lake Tahoe area and <br />purchase of existing and planned casinos; and <br /> <br />Mayor Haye~ has solicited support for this plan from other California <br />cities; and .I <br /> <br />the preservation and protection of the environment are laudable objectives <br />for all p~blic agencies; and <br /> <br />public agencies have a responsibility to assure their actions do not cause <br />significant damage to the environment in their jurisdiction. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. That Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Basin by virtue of importance to the <br /> entire nation as significant natural resources require continuing con- <br /> servation efforts through the redoubled efforts of the States of Cali- <br /> fornia and Nevada. <br /> <br />Section 2. That any proposal to provide for the Federal purchase of all undeveloped <br /> land in the Tahoe Basin be rejected. <br /> <br />Section 3. That the City of San Jose focus their conservation efforts and environ- <br /> mental concerns on the devastation to South San Francisco Bay caused by <br /> the discharge of untreated wast~ into the Bay from a San Jose Sewage <br /> Treatment Facility. <br /> <br />Section 4.
