CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLFASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 79-227 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING AN EXTENSION OF TIMF FROM <br />THE STATE OFFICE OF PLANNING AND RESEARCH IN ORDER <br />FOR THE CITY OF PLEASANTON TO COMPLETE AN UPDATE OF <br />THE HOUSING ELEMENT OF THE GENERAL PLAN. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City desires an extension of time beyond the deadline <br />set for completion by the State Housing Element Guidelines <br />from the Office of Planning and Research (OPR) so that it <br />may update its housing element; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City has been delayed in updating the housing element <br />because of the lack of available information on the great <br />change in community composition since the 1970 federal <br />census, such information not to be available until <br />following the 1980 federal census; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City has retained a research firm to provide interim <br />data on housing needs and attitudes in the community to <br />be available in late 1979; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City has secured funding for the housing element update <br />under the provisions of Section 701 of the federal Housing <br />Act of 1954, as amended, and the work schedule contemplated <br />by the City and approved by the State Department of Housing <br />and Community Development is to be concluded by June 30, <br />1979; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City has in all respects a valid and effective general <br />plan in conformity with the provisions of Section 65300 <br />et. seq. of the State Government Code; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City generally concurs with the position of the State <br />Legislature and the League of California Cities on the <br />advisory nature of the State Housing Element Guidelines; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS , <br /> <br />the City believes the issue of housing and the adoption <br />of an adequate housing element update will entail sub- <br />stantial time through the public hearing process. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES <br />RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City of Pleasanton hereby formally applies to the <br /> Office of Planning and Research for an extension of eight <br /> (8) months in time until June 30, 1980 so that it may <br /> update its housing element. <br /> <br />III <br /> <br /> <br />
